{"id":360,"date":"2017-04-06T20:41:45","date_gmt":"2017-04-06T20:41:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.massey.ac.nz\/crcc\/?p=360"},"modified":"2023-01-17T00:09:26","modified_gmt":"2023-01-17T00:09:26","slug":"new-zealand-china-collaboration-supports-young-scientists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crcc.nz\/crcc\/2017\/04\/06\/new-zealand-china-collaboration-supports-young-scientists\/","title":{"rendered":"New Zealand-China collaboration supports young scientists"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><br>The New Zealand-China NCD Research Collaboration Centre (NCD CRCC) has joined forces with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and three New Zealand Universities to launch a PhD scholarship scheme for Chinese students interested in undertaking research on non-communicable diseases (NCDs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.massey.ac.nz\/crcc\/non-communicable-diseases\/research\/scholarships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The CSC\u2013NCD CRCC Joint Funding Programme<\/a>\u00a0provides for up to 10 scholarships a year for Chinese students to undertake PhD research on NCDs.\u00a0 Students will be supervised by leading scientists at one of three NZ universities \u2013 Auckland University of Technology, the University of Auckland and the University of Otago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Memorandum of Understanding between the CSC, NCD CRCC and the three universities is the first of its kind as the CSC usually signs agreements with individual universities.&nbsp; NCD CRCC Director Jim Mann explains the importance of this initiative:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There is huge interest from scientists in New Zealand and China in developing research collaborations for the mutual benefit of both countries. But it takes time and a lot of hard work to develop flagship collaborations between leading scientists.
